OUR ROOTS
OUR ROOTS
We are inspired by Buddhist tradition, in which seven bowls of water are offered to Buddha as a cure for greed. As we look to the wisdom of ancient Cambodia and how the Angkor empire developed the world’s most extensive hydraulic city, the Khmers were able to establish a sustainable agricultural system capable of supporting a massive population.
Having access to pure, unlimited mineral water from a natural spring located onsite, our original inspiration was to design a prototype that could honor the ancient Khmer sacred water management system and the 7 scared bowls of water offered to Buddha.
Taking this divine blessing, we mastered through our prototype the power of water, earth, air, and fire, which has the potential to breakdown the illusion that there is not enough. We gather together to cure the hungry ghost mindset that has led to undue suffering and imbalance in modern-day global society. Our team is excited to introduce to the world the first ever zero-energy aquaponic vertical farming system, aka Bonlei Technology.
Agriculture 2050
what’s reality
Global food demand, which is expected to climb by more than 70% over the next 40 years as the world population approaches 10 billion by 2050.
Food waste – 33% of food produced globally goes to waste, food mileage and crop failure representing the main causes.
Chemicals – As we all know, industrial farming makes heavy use of chemicals to boost productivity. Needless to specify what is the effect on our health.
The agriculture industrial complex has been polluting 70% of the water resources worldwide, and a third of the world’s soil is moderately to highly degraded, threatening global food supplies. A change in farming practices has never been more urgent than NOW.
BONLAI ADVANTAGE
SCALABILITY
Increasing the height of a structure allows for more growing space. The marginal cost of construction is not proportional to the increased productivity and profit it generates. Our prototype is designed on a commercial scale at 1000 sqm of growing area with unlimited potential to expand to industrial scale.
RESILIENCE
We can run our business from just about anywhere, given the right conditions, economic and legal variables (such as electricity costs and country legislation). Our technology is an organic living mechanism that mitigates crop failure every step of the way by the delicate balance between the plants, the fish, and the microbes colonies. The miracle in our resilient technology is that each aspect is a smaller part of a whole just like a natural ecosystem the technology is dependent on one another.
REVENUE
The benefits outlined above have a direct impact on the potential profitability of Bonlai vertical farming because our technology can save money and energy on operational costs, making the enterprise VERY profitable for key partners .
REDUCED TEMPERATURE COST
By utilizing geothermal technology, natural ventilated augmented cooling system and terracotta evaporative wall system, we can stabilize the temperature inside the greenhouse, resulting in a significant reduction in climatization costs and a decrease in energy demand.
Could this be our legacy?
We are a small team without much support but we our tenacious to solve some of the worlds biggest challenges. While not many visionaries look towards places likes Cambodia to disrupt the current farming industry if our technology withstands the test of time we could very well eliminate world hunger.
About regenerative farming and our system
Due to the fact that vertical farming requires less space than all other agricultural practices, Bonlai would be able to increase production without claiming vast tracts of land. This would result in a natural regeneration of spaces that are no longer required for industrial agriculture. Therefore There is no more reasons to cut down forest unsustainably and society will be able to give it back to nature.
Vermi
biotechnology
our secret weapon towards regenerative farming
Vermiculture is the intentional cultivation of worms. In gardens and farms, worms are raised and used to break down organic materials as part of a compost process called vermicomposting. Composting is a classic approach for organic waste management and comes in a variety of forms. Composting techniques have improved throughout time with varied technological engineering. Vermicompost is referred to as “black gold.” Vermicomposting has a variety of advantages, including improved soil health and plant growth. Vermicomposting technology is beneficial over other fertilizer manufacturing technologies due to its zero pollution and inexpensive cost.

Local jobs
Although we value technology, we don’t want to lose sight of actual people in the process. We have built a business that prioritizes hiring humans over artificial intelligence. However, we anticipate that as technology advances, the nature of farm work will change and more people will choose to pursue careers in the area, adding fresh depth to a sector that is losing actors. We are committed to hiring women and other vulnerable populations to help run our farm. We are excited to train the next generation of khmer women in agriculture technology.
PROFITABILITY
100 feet or meter cost x price the average commercial farm to gain profit needs x meters of growing bed which can cost estimated between 300-500usd per sqm of cultivation space.
Awareness as with any new technology finding early adapters and users can cost money and time. We have to spend money on marketing campaigns and invest in public events to spread more about the concept of zero energy vertical farming.
Renewable energy technology such as solar system or wind turbine system have a high upfront cost and a limited battery lifespan which can be prohibitive. This is why we continue our research and development on zero energy technologies such as geothermal water cooling and evaporative air cooling and others etc.
Over head cost most consciously advance business know you must pay your employees a fair wage and provide them the right ecosystem to thrive and grow as such this takes time and resources to provide.
Land conditions can create added cost ex if its in an area that is prone to flood extra cost might be added to raised the level of land to accommodate for disaster preparedness. The type of soils will also impact the significantly on the cost of construction ex water well digging and foundation.
